A little bit about me

I love books and reading.  Whenever I can, I grab a book and get stuck in.  I have two children and it breaks my heart that they haven't found the same love of books.  Despite my best efforts I have failed to get them to fall in love with reading.  Unlike me, they see it as the biggest chore and would rather watch a screen which quite frankly breaks my heart. I'll never give in with then though I keep pushing the books under their noses.  Just one day maybe they will see.

I will read almost any genre although I don't really connect with science fiction and fantasy. It just doesn't ignite the spark in me.

One of the most important things to me about a book is the characters.  If an author can write a character that I fall in love with or even hate they are on to a winner.  I need to feel something for the character and no matter how unrealistic the situation they find them selves in is, I need to see them there and believe it.

I do dabble a little bit myself in writing my own stories although I have had little success in what I've written.  Maybe one day but at the minute I am happy to just devour any book that I can get my hands on.

I was sceptical with the arrival of e-readers and dismissed those, they weren't for me. That was until I received the gift of a kindle paper white.  That has revolutionised my reading habits.  I still love a book that you can physically hold but I do read a lot more on my kindle.  The one thing I do miss about the physical book that the kindle can't replicate is the satisfying crack and creak of the spine on a brand new book.  Oh, and the smell of the ink and paper.  My favourite smell in the world is the one when you walk into a book shop.

My aim for this blog is simply to share with you the books that I am reading.  To pass on those little winners that I fall in love with that might otherwise be missed.

Please feel free to comment on anything I post.  I would love to hear what you think of a book you have read or indeed if you totally disagree with my thoughts.  Any recommendations would be fab.

Happy Reading

Jaynie
